Last week was National Baking Week and not only did we celebrate by baking lots of naughty cakes but we also offered you the chance to win a mini tea hamper.
We asked you to bake Mrs Simkins’ Recipe of the Month – Caramel Apple Granny Tarts – and send us a photo of your efforts.
We had a great response and thoroughly enjoyed looking through all of your delicious baking creations. It was a really tough choice but Dee Weaver is the winner with her mouthwatering vegan take on the recipe:
“Replace the butter with soya spread, the egg with ¼ cup of coconut milk, and the dulce de leche with blackcurrant with a hint of ginger cordial. I used apples picked from a tree growing wild in what used to be the garden of a house that was demolished in the seventies. I don’t know what variety they are, but they’re similar to Cox’s, and very tasty.”
