Home tea smoked salmon with watercress and potato salad, followed by cold roast chicken with home made coleslaw and home made breads then a green tea jelly with raspberries and cream….a cold lemon tea and elderflower infusion topped up with champagne and to finish dark chocolate pots. Guests would include Jools Holland for music, Billy Connolly for conversation and the setting would be a classic Thames rowing boat
Caramelised red onion and goats cheese tarts(my own recipe)
Sesame seed topped sausage rolls(jamie o)
Chicken cornets(nigella)
Pea and ham soup(in case it rains!)
Fresh fruit salad
And a box of chocolates and a couple of bottles of wine
Guests would be Prince,Davina Mcall,Billy Connolly and Phil and Kirstie.
Setting: St Andrews-anywhere!
colin firth, on a rug, covered with strawberries and cream (colin firth, not the rug)
Langoustines with garlic mayo
Locally caught Thanet whelks smothered in ground black pepper and Sarsons vinegar
Door stop thick white crusty bread and butter
A jamjar of homemade lemon and chilli salad dressing
Rocket and spinach (in a tupperware container)
Hard boiled eggs & gala pie
Several flasks of piping hot breakfast tea with lashing of milk and sugar (and a hip flask of malt whisky for medicinal purposes)
Victoria sponge with a bulging filling of buttercream and raspberry jam
Guests: Keith Richards, Tony Blackburn, Chas (as in C&D) and Lionel Blair…should make for interesting conversation!
Location: Viking Bay, Broadstairs in a large beach hut on a brisk November afternoon wrapped up in travel rugs looking at the bleak sea and enjoying the food and company…cheers!
Surely the answer has to be Kew-cumber sandwiches with Holland-aise sauce!
The music would be provided by Jools Holland.
The setting would be Greenwich Park.
The guests would be all the former members of Squeeze.
The drinks would be Long Island Iced Tea.
The food would be a typical South East London stlye picnic (without the jellied eels).
A proper home from home !
How about an old fashioned picnic with slightly soggy jam sandwiches, sausage rolls, fairy cakes and lemonade in the park with all the family.
I’d be sat on a Persian rug on a Keralan beach with sandwiches of ham, cheese and local fish varieties. Not ignoring my perfect location I’d also have some samosas, pakoras and bhajis. Given the heat i’d wash it all down with a cooling iced tea made with Clipper teabags- only the best for my picnic! I’d be with a small group of friends and enjoy Kool and the Gang in a more exciting atmosphere before settling down to relaxing local music as the day wore on. Naturally it would end with a good flask of tea and some jam and scones- the only way to finish a picnic!
The most perfect picnic guests for me would have to be Adele and Alan Carr, have become slightly obsessed with the pair over the last year. It would be an unforgettable experience, and with their personalities, their humour and their voices conversation would not run short. Music would have to be a live jazz band in the distance, not too far we can’t hear them but not too loud they drown out the comic genius of Adele and Alan Carr! It would be a sunny summer’s day with a slight breeze, set in Devil’s Dyke in the South Downs, a very picturesque location. We’d have a chilled bottle of red and a bottle of white wine, a chocolate fountain with strawberries and marshmallows, cupcakes drenched in sweet icing, pasta salad, cheese and crackers, corn on the cob with butter, jam sandwiches and a good old garden salad for good measure. We’d finish with a glass of ice tea whilst watching the sun set behind the hills of the South Downs – perfect!
Start with a bottle of Veuve Clicquot nicely chilled in one of those portable coolers!
For starters, some fresh green kalamata olives in lemon oil spiced with red chilli flakes & served with a humble baguette.
Mains would be a Quesadilla stuffed with scrambled eggs & bacon alongside a tomato & avocado salsa.
Strawberries for afters, naturally!
I’m a vegetarian so my ideal picnic would be
Asparagus Quiche
Carrot Sticks with Mayo Dip
Fresh Fruit Salad
and a Flask of Clipper Tea!!!
Thanks for all of your wonderful responses, we would gladly accept an invite to any of these perfect picnics.
Winners of the Kew the Music tickets will be notified by email tomorrow morning (4th July).
